Nestled in the heart of Himachal Pradesh near Udaipur, Miyar Valley stands as a testament to nature’s unspoiled beauty. This remote paradise, part of the famous Lahaul and Spiti Valley, offers an escape into the serene embrace of the “Cold Desert,” a region that receives scant rainfall and is often cut off from the world during the snowy winters.
Udaipur: The Gateway to Miyar Valley

Udaipur, a quaint town in Himachal Pradesh, serves as the gateway to Miyar Valley. Rich in history and culture, Udaipur is home to the revered Trilokinath Temple and Mrikula Devi Temple.
Trilokinath Temple

This ancient shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is steeped in legend. It is said that the temple’s idol was discovered by a shepherd in the nearby forest, and despite attempts to move it to another location, the idol always mysteriously returned to its original spot. This miracle led to the establishment of the temple, which is now a spiritual haven for pilgrims and travellers alike.

Trilokinath Temple holds a unique spiritual significance as a shared sanctuary for both Hindus and Buddhists. Revered as Lord Shiva by Hindus and as “Arya Avalokiteshwara,” a beloved Bodhisattva by Buddhists, Trilokinath is considered the third holiest pilgrimage site after Kailash and Mansarover. This dual devotion underscores Himachal Pradesh’s title as Devbhoomi, the land of gods. At Trilokinath Temple, the harmonious blend of a brass temple bell and a Buddhist prayer wheel symbolises the unity of these two faiths.
The Enigmatic Mrikula Devi Temple

Another architectural marvel in Udaipur is the Mrikula Devi Temple. This ancient temple, known for its intricate wooden carvings, stands as a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage. The temple’s legend speaks of a fierce goddess who protected the valley from invaders, embodying the spirit of resilience and strength. The temple’s unique architecture, with its wooden beams and detailed carvings, offers a glimpse into the artistic prowess of the region’s craftsmen.
